Front of House Apprenticeship Level 2 at Bedford College

This apprenticeship will provide you with the skills and knowledge you will need to support your employment in the exciting hospitality industry. You will learn valuable restaurant and bar skills, along with customer-focused skills and techniques. The skills and experience you will gain are highly sought after by bars and restaurants, making this an ideal way to progress your career and enhance your employment opportunities within the hospitality industry.

Entry requirements

Grade requirements:

You will need four GCSEs at grades A*-D or 9-3, including English and maths.

Course content

During this apprenticeship you will study a range of topics that will be selected to suit the specific job role and establishment that you are working in. This could include:

  • Principles of beverage product knowledge
  • Service of hot beverages 
  • Food and beverage service skills
  • Handling payments and maintaining the payment point
  • Principles of customer service in hospitality, leisure travel and tourism

Assessment methods

You will be assessed via a combination of practical and written knowledge assessments.


You will gain the following qualifications:

Food & Beverage Service City & Guilds Level 2 Diploma


  • Hospitality and Catering Principles Technical Certificate
  • Functional Skills in English and Maths

Further study and career options

Further study: On successful completion of this programme you can progress on to a Hospitality Level 3 Advanced apprenticeship, or on to our Hospitality Supervision & Leadership Level 3 qualification. 

Future careers: You will be well prepared to move on to further employment within the hospitality industry including bar staff, table or counter service, kitchen assistant, housekeeping and administration.

Additional information

You will need to wear suitable Front of House uniform.

Next steps

To be eligible for an apprenticeship you must either be employed on a full-time contract by an employer willing to support your training or have an offer of employment as an apprentice. Bedford College can help you find a job role with an employer if you don’t already have one.
